In order to ensure your safety and convenience, we are working with the Minister of Transportation to improve our services so you can have a pleasant taxi experience.

Tokyo Taxi Center operates in the 23 wards of Tokyo, as well as the Musashino City and Mitaka City areas.

Taxi Rankings

Tokyo has already been named by TripAdvisor as best in the world in overall taxi services, but to promote an even better taxi service, Tokyo Taxi Center has implemented a service and safety evaluation for its drivers.

Drivers with outstanding records and outstanding behavior receive superior evaluations, are awarded an "Excellent Driver" certificate, and are recognized as model taxi drivers.

Excellent Service Taxi Stand

The "Excellent Service" taxi stand is attended only by drivers who have received an "Excellent Driver" certificate or private taxis who are recognized as top level (Master or 3 star taxis). These taxi stands are in Tokyo, including Haneda Airport's Terminal 3, Ginza (no-ride area), and major stations.

Providing Foreign Visitors an Environment for Smooth Travel and Stay

Our taxi stands provide direction in many languages to accommodate people from around the world.

The taxi stands in Haneda Airport are equipped with motion detectors and offer audio guidance in English and Japanese, as well as LED displays for easy-to-understand information.

To provide better service for foreign passengers, we promote an English course specifically for Taxi drivers, who drive what we call "Hospitality Taxis".

For drivers looking to improve their status, we are implementing a certification exam. Those who pass will be officially declared as "English Certified Drivers".

Hospitality Taxis

The "Excellent Service" taxi stand at Haneda Airport offers taxis equipped with foreign language communication cards which explain taxi services. The drivers are limited to those who have completed a course in "omotenashi", an important ideal of Japanese hospitality.

In addition, an extra lane has been included for drivers who have completed a course in English communication with foreign passengers, referred to as "Hospitality Taxis".

Universal Design Taxi/Wagon Taxi Exclusive Lane

Terminal 3 of Haneda Airport and the taxi stand in front of the Yaesu Exit of Tokyo Station offer exclusive lanes for universal design taxis and wagon taxis. Universal design taxis are easy to get in and out of, making it easier for elderly, disabled, or pregnant passengers. Wagon taxis offer more space for passengers with considerable luggage.

Haneda Airport Fixed Fare Lane

We offer a fixed fare to and from Haneda Airport and the areas listed below.

The locations available for fixed fare,as well as pricing, differ slightly between taxi companies. For more details, please contact the specific company.

The fare and time required for the above locations are taken from HND Route Master.

Ginza's No-Ride Area

In order to regulate the flow of passengers, in accordance with the laws under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Transportation (Act on Special Measures Concerning Regulation of Taxi Services),taxis in the Ginza area are only allowed to pick up passengers from designated taxi stands from 10PM to 1AM (except Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays). The taxi stands are within an approximate 150 meter area of each other , so please refer to the map below.

Highway fees will be added to the fare upon reaching destination.

Some fares and fees differ in certain conditions or locations.

Payment Method

Foreign currency is not accepted, so please pay in Japanese yen. There are cars that accept credit cards (Visa, DC, Mastercard, etc.), taxi tickets, and electronic payments, so please check before riding.

Seating Capacity

Normal sedans can only fit four (4) passengers. There are wagon taxis for passengers with a lot of luggage, and jumbo taxis for up to nine (9) passengers. Only certain companies provide these services so please contact the taxi company in advance.

For wheelchair access, as well as easy access for elderly, disabled, or pregnant passengers, universal taxis are also available.

Automatic Doors

Japanese taxis use automatic doors operated by the driver that open the back passenger door. Please leave the door opening to the driver. Also note that traffic in Tokyo moves on the left-hand side, so please exit on the left to ensure your safely.

Seat Belts

Seat belts are required by law to be worn. Please fasten your seat belt for your protection.

Smoking

Tokyo law prohibits smoking on the road or while walking. Almost all taxis in Tokyo are non-smoking (There are exceptions). Please refrain from smoking inside of the taxi.

Forgotten Items and Contact

If you have left a personal belonging in the taxi and have your receipt or can identify your driver, please contact them directly.

Here is an explanation for markings that show up on the taxi display (seen through the front window)

[空　車]

Vacant (kuusha) In service with no passengers.

[回　送]

Not in Service (kaisou) Cannot pick up passengers.

[割　増]

Increased fare (warimashi) Occupied at an increased evening fare.*This is only displayed from 10pm to 5am.

[迎　車]

Reserved (geisha) Going to a reserved customer and unavailable.

[予約車]

Reserved (yoyakusha) Waiting for reserved customer and unavailable.
